CO Escapee Pleads Guilty

A Denver man who bolted from the Pitkin County Courthouse last July will spend nearly seven years in state prison after he pleaded guilty to escape Monday.

Warren Carter, 46, entered his plea after the audio recording of his previous sentencing hearing, for theft of copper wire from a local construction site, was played in court.

He will be sentenced for the escape to four years in prison, the mandatory minimum requirement given his felonious past, said Arnold Mordkin, chief deputy district attorney. That term, with 211 days of credit for time in jail, will be served after his three-year sentence for the copper wire theft.
