State Rep. Tarah Toohil on Monday called for a moratorium on additional referrals from the state Department of Corrections to MinSec's Hazleton facility and suggested a formal investigation into the facility. Toohil, R-Butler Township, sent an e-mail and a formal letter to John Coyne, director of the Department of Corrections' Office of Legislative Affairs, asking for the moratorium. "The negative impact that the facility and its residents have had on the community has continued to grow," she wrote. "This moratorium is needed in order to protect the community from additional problems stemming from new residents." The moratorium will also allow local law enforcement and the community to recover from the "ongoing negative impact," she wrote. Read More. |
