Massachusetts State Police have suspended two more civilian employees who allegedly had sex with female prisoners who were assigned to cleaning duties at the agency's Framingham, Mass. headquarters while on a work-release program, according to a State Police official and a Department of Correction worker familiar with the allegations. The latest suspensions increase to five the number of employees who have been suspended. Last month, two other State Police officers, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that three workers had been suspended after allegedly having sex with a prisoner or prisoners in a storage closet near the cafeteria kitchen. Investigators are examining allegations that the five employees, who are not sworn officers, had sex on numerous occasions over several months with more than one female inmate, according to the State Police official, who has direct knowledge of the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity. The State Police official with direct knowledge of the investigation said that sexual relations between civilian workers and prisoners allegedly occurred almost daily in various out-of-the-way locations, sometimes with the benefit of a lookout in the headquarters building. About 100 employees work at headquarters, including the agency's top commanders. The Department of Correction worker, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said prisoners spend a maximum of 180 days at a work-release location before being rotated to another location or released upon conclusion of their sentences. |
