SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones said Monday that state budget talks could lead to hundreds or thousands of low-level state prison inmates being transferred to overcrowded county jails if Gov. Jerry Brown gets his way. "For a system that is right now bursting at the seams, this would present an extreme challenge." Jones said. Jones made his comments during a roundtable discussion with journalists. He said Brown's proposed realignment plan, if approved, would shift low-level state prison inmates to county jails in big numbers. He said what isn't clear is where the county could put all those people or whether the state would pay the staff needed to handle an influx of new inmates. href="http://www.kcra.com/mostpopular/26780223/detail.html"target="_new">Read More. |
