Two former Burlington County, N.J. corrections officers have been sentenced for smuggling contraband to inmates, officials said Friday. James H. Dowd, 27, of Safron Drive, Lumberton, must serve a three-year prison term and pay $700 in restitution, for second-degree official misconduct. Vincenzo A. Perricone, 25, West Broad Street, Burlington City, was sentenced to two years probation and was ordered to pay $200 by Superior Court Judge Thomas S. Smith. He admitted guilt earlier this year to third-degree official misconduct. Authorities said Dowd smuggled cigars, marijuana, alcohol, clothing and pre-paid cell phones to inmates at Burlington County Jail, while Perricone smuggled cigarettes. They received at least $200 from inmates, authorities said. Both men were suspended from their jobs after being arrested in October 2003. Under their sentences, they were banned from future public employment. |
