A man who escaped from the Helena Prerelease Center is accused of crashing into an Idaho State Police trooper’s car during a chase Monday night that ended with gunfire and the death of a Butte woman. Mark Marion Maykopet, who was serving time in Helena under the name Mark Marion Macy Jr., has been arrested on felony charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer and eluding a peace officer. Although known by Montana officials as Macy, he is booked in an Idaho jail as Mark Marion Maykopet. After the collision, the trooper fired multiple times at the Jeep Maykopet was driving. Maykopet’s wife, 40-year-old Christie A. Little of Butte, died from gunshot wounds, according to authorities.
