| County Commission Discusses New Jails |

With three new members on the Lyon County Commission, an historical overview of the planned Lyon County Jail complex facility was presented at the Feb. 3 Commission meeting. New board members Ray Fierro and Vida Keller, who took office in November and January, respectively, had requested the presentation to bring them up to speed on the project, and to help them answer constituents' questions about the project's history. One question asked that was answered later in the meeting was regarding the prior costs estimated a few years ago for a possible complex in Silver Springs or Yerington. The presentation was discussion only. County Manager Jeff Page began the presentation by reporting that the current Lyon County jail facility was constructed in 1976 with the complex, at that time, featuring sheriff's office space; juvenile probation offices, including two male and two female beds for juveniles; a 16-bed jail; the county dispatch facility; the Mason Valley Justice Court; and the Yerington Police Department offices.
