| Jail Numbers Hang On Fire Marshal's Word |

Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson is hopeful the state fire marshal will allow a return to an 82-inmate occupancy level in the county jail in the Law Enforcement Center, after a consultant's evaluation arrived at the number. Because of access concerns by fire authorities, the county has reduced its jail population, trying to keep the numbers around 65 to avoid a spike in arrests sending the population over 77, according to Henderson. That has resulted in more inmates being housed in other counties' jails. On Tuesday, Reno County had 68 inmates in the LEC jail, 60 inmates in the jail annex, and 20 inmates in jails outside the county, Henderson said. Read More. |
