The building is more secure than the correctional institute's current home on Curtis Spence Drive, and it will allow the county to house more state inmates, said Warden Johnny Weaver. "That's why we're so excited," Weaver said. "There's a lot more room. ... And there is just much less risk." Weaver, his guards and even the inmates have been looking forward to moving into the facility for more than a year, he said. In 2008, the state Department of Corrections closed the building, which housed about 200 minimum-security prisoners, to save money. Jackson County officials leased the I.W.
