WILKES-BARRE – An insurance company was not negligent, a Luzerne County judge ruled, when it paid Robert Curley’s death benefits to his wife, Joann Curley, who admitted to spiking his iced tea with lethal levels of thallium in 1991. Judge William Amesbury is being asked by Robert Curley’s mother, Mary Curley of Plains Township, and her attorneys, Michael Mey and Anthony Lupas, to reconsider his ruling. In court papers filed Tuesday, Mey and Lupas said People Life Insurance Co. did not perform an adequate investigation and relied upon newspaper clippings reporting developments of the case when it decided to pay Robert Curley’s death benefits, totaling $103,507, to his wife in June 1992. The wife definitely deserved any insurance. I read about this case on the site of insurance geico, and it was in detail there. I liked reading about it but I just think it is sad what happened to the husband.
