| CO DOC Plan Could Save $13 Million |

DENVER (AP) — A plan to reorganize the Colorado Department of Corrections to save money would cut about $13 million, roughly 230 jobs and close one prison. Gov. John Hickenlooper is recommending closing the Fort Lyon Correctional Facility in Las Animas as part of his budget proposal announced Tuesday. Corrections officials say that would eliminate about 149 jobs and save $6.3 million per year. Other reductions include 38 positions in the department's education program for a savings of $3 million and $1.3 million in cuts in parole services. Read More. |
