| Jail Changes Approved By Board |

County Commissioners unanimously approved on Feb. 8 scheduling of a Feb. 22 public hearing on a number of proposed changes at the jail. The changes would bring the county into compliance with state statutes and allow for increased cost efficiencies in the operation and maintenance of the jail. The proposed ordinance requires the county’s correctional facilities operate in way that is consistent with Florida Model Jail Standards. If passed, the sheriff would become chief correctional officer of the county’s correctional system. The sheriff would have the responsibility of appointing other officers, as necessary, to assist with jail operations.
