Budget Cuts Don't Help Overcrowding |

State correctional officers and the Police Benevolent Association say overcrowding and more cuts don't mix. The two highlighted the dangers of double bunking, which is placing two offenders in a space that was only designed for one in our state prisons. Officials say right now 10,000 inmates in the state are double bunked and believe that has lead to a 50 percent jump in inmate suicides and a 12 percent increase in inmate on inmate assaults. They also say overcrowding creates a more dangerous situation for correctional officers. Read More. |
