Overflow Inmates Will Not Be Held At County Jail |

It looks like overflow inmates from Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge won't be housed at the Missoula County Detention Facility after all - at least not anytime soon. Earlier this week, a legislative panel failed to approve funding for the plan. And Department of Corrections Director Mike Ferriter wrote the Missoula County Board of Commissioners last week saying that "the department understands your concerns about using the correctional facility in Missoula as a regional prison." "We will keep you apprised before the department takes any steps in that direction," Ferriter wrote. Missoula County Sheriff Carl Ibsen said he was pleased by the decision, as did Missoula County Commissioners Chairman Jean Curtiss. She cautioned, however, that the Department of Corrections might revisit the idea someday. "They're looking for less expensive ways to handle people in the MASC program," she said. Read More. |
