Jail Facing Lawsuit Over Alleged Assault |

A Winchester man accused of assaulting several regional jail officers claims in a federal lawsuit that other employees hurt him during an incident in January. Mark Adam Syme, 19, remains incarcerated at Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center. A Frederick County Circuit Court grand jury indicted Syme last week on five counts of assault and battery of a law enforcement officer and two counts of possessing or making a weapon while a prisoner at the jail. Indictments charge Syme with assaulting five different jail officers -- two on Jan. 16 and one each on Jan 31, Feb. 3 and Feb. 4 -- and possessing a deadly weapon while a prisoner Jan. 30 and Feb. 3.
