| NJ DOC Officer Makes Heroic Rescue |

PATERSON, NJ - Passaic County Corrections officers were in the right place at the right time when a fire started at 324 Grand Street, across the street from the county jail, early on the morning of February 18. Corrections Officer Jason Ekkers, a 6 year veteran, was on routine patrol outside the jail he spotted heavy smoke emanating from that building and the one next to it, according to a press release issue by the sheriff's department. Ekkers rushed towards the smoke and was met by a hysterical woman who stated that her baby and family were still in the burning building, thepress release said.
