The Santa Rosa Correctional Institution is inviting participants to plunge into the chilly waters of the Gulf of Mexico for its first ever Pensacola Beach Law Enforcement Polar Plunge at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 behind the Margaritaville Beach Hotel. "We will all gather at the beach and we will thank everyone, introduce some people and then we will all run in the water," said James Hannon, food service director for the Institution. "Everyone attending does not have to go in the water, we are also grateful for the ones (who are) cheering us on. There is no time limit and you do not have to swim. Some people will dress in a costume. It's all up to how they want to come." The minimum age to participate is 10 years old, and the entry fee is $10 in advance or $15 the day of, which includes a Polar Plunge T-shirt. Those who do not wish to participate can still purchase a T-shirt for $10. As of now more than 200 people, which include law enforcement, military and public individuals, have purchased a T-shirt and at least 100 of them have committed to taking the plunge, Hannon said.
