Authorities say a jail inmate from the Kent County, Mich. Jail died of hyperthermia after being transferred to a boot camp on the southeast side of the state.
Dontarie Minter from Kentwood was transferred from the jail to the boot camp in May. That is where he died of hyperthermia after performing speed drills. Officials at the camp asked Minter if he wanted to sit down during the exercise, but he said he was OK.
Minter was originally jailed in Kent County for violating his probation on a drug conviction and chose to be transferred to the boot camp.
Officials at the Department of Corrections will not comment because officials have not seen the autopsy report.
State officials say Minter was the first death in the boot camp system which has existed for 16 years.
