Potential Layoffs Not Reason For National Guard In Prisons |

Members of the National Guard toured several state prisons in recent weeks, but it was not intended as a show of force or any special preparedness in case of a prison guard work stoppage, a Department of Corrections spokesman said. The National Guard annually tours some of the prisons this time of year as part of ongoing emergency response preparedness, Tim LeMonds said. There's been no word on whether a work stoppage is planned, but the appearance of the National Guard at some of the state's prisons raised the question among several media outlets, LeMonds said. In the event of a major work stoppage, just as in the event of a flood or tornado, the governor can declare a state of emergency and call the guard into action, LeMonds said. Read More. |
