The woman arrested in connection with the dragging death of a tow-truck driver last week told a relative it was an accident, according to a woman who says she is the niece of the accused. Detra Farries, 32 — and, according to the niece, the mother of eight — faces six years in prison if convicted of manslaughter in connection with the death of Allen Rose. Rose, an Iraq war veteran and part-owner of J & J Towing, was trying to tow a black GMC sport-utility vehicle when someone got in the vehicle and drove away, witnesses said. Rose started to chase the vehicle before his legs became snagged in a dangling tow cable. He was dragged more than a mile. Farries was booked into the El Paso County jail Friday in connection with the death. As of Sunday evening, her name no longer was listed in the jail’s inmate roster. The Gazette has not yet confirmed whether she has posted bond, which was set at $50,000. She is scheduled to make a court appearance Monday. Read More. |
