MONROE, Wash. -- A national team will of experts is set to begin an independent review of the Monroe Correctional Complex on Monday, according to a Washington State Department of Corrections release. The investigation was requested by Governor Gregoire following the murder of correctional officer Jayme Biendl on Jan. 29. A three-person team of experts from the National Institute of Corrections will spend a week at the Monroe complex, reviewing policies, procedures, staffing, and the offender classification system.
