| MA Bank Robber Sentenced To 20 Years |

A Norwood man known as the U-30 bandit was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison today for robbing a string of banks in Wellesley, Newton, Needham and Dedham in 2009, according to US Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz. Dimitri Long, 35, had pleaded guilty to eight bank robberies in five months, demanding money when he entered the banks, brandishing what appeared to be a black, semi-automatic handgun and sometimes placing a box that looked like a bomb on the counter. The device turned out to be a hoax, and when he was arrested he was carrying a BB gun. Police gave him the nickname U-30 because he robbed the banks in under 30 seconds. Read More. |
