| Suspect in killing of teen slain behind bars |

Authorities say a suspect in the kidnapping, torture and murder of a Bakersfield, Calif. teen has been killed while behind bars. Sheriff's officials say 19-year-old Robert Vallejo died Monday at Kern Medical Center after being severely beaten Sunday while in custody at the Lerdo Holding facility. Vallejo was one of six people held in connection with 17-year-old Amanda Zubia's death. Sheriff's Sergeant Chevy Garza said that "more than 30 inmates are being questioned in connection with the assault" on Vallejo. A sixth suspect in Zubia's death was taken into custody Sunday. Zubia will be laid to rest Tuesday in Bakersfield. She leaves behind a three-year-old son. |
