DOC Badge Helps ID Man Hit By Train |

A 34-year-old homeless man with recent addresses in both Gloucester and Salem has been identified as the man who died last night when he was struck by a Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority commuter train in Gloucester. Gloucester police are continuing to investigate the accident, along with personnel from the MBTA and the Massachusetts State Police. But Gloucester Police Detective Kenneth Ryan, who was among those responding to the scene last night, said this morning there are no signs anyone was with Lucas W. Pierce at the time of the crash, and he said that Pierce was apparently sitting within the tracks. Records show that Pierce has had a string of alcohol-related arrests both here and in Salem, and reportedly checked into Gloucester court Wednesday afternoon, then was released. He was identified partly through responders finding a Department of Corrections identification badge at the scene. Read More. |
