Commissioner Leo C. Arnone is expressing his appreciation in reaction to Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s decision to reappoint him as the state’s corrections chief. “I am grateful that the Governor has placed his faith in my ability to continue to uphold our mission of protecting the citizens of our state,” Arnone said. “I have pledged to him that we will continue to manage the size of the offender population, which is now at a 10 year low, and further invest in community corrections, to support a law abiding return to society for discharging inmates.” Arnone is a 22-year veteran of the Department of Correction. He began his career with the agency in 1974 as a front line officer at Somers State Prison. He retired in 1995 as a regional director, responsible for six correctional facilities with a total of more than 4,000 inmates. He subsequently served with the State Judicial Branch overseeing juvenile detention facilities and with the Department of Children and Families as Bureau Chief of the Juvenile Service Bureau. He was initially appointed as Commissioner by Governor M. Jodi Rell in August of 2010. The Connecticut Department of Correction manages 17 jails and prisons with a total of 17,800 offenders and some 6,200 employees. |
