Death Row Inmate Dies Awaiting Execution |

A San Quentin State Prison death row inmate has died of natural causes, officials said Monday. Condemned inmate James Glenn Van Pelt, 54, was pronounced dead at an outside hospital Sunday morning, according to the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Officials did not release the cause of death but said he had been in the hospital due to "a deteriorating medical condition." Van Pelt was sentenced to death on July 12, 2002, for murder while lying in wait and the torture of Frank Aguilar, on Jan. 22, 1985 in Riverside County, officials said.
