State DUI Laws Evolving |

Getting tough on DUI offenders is a big focus of the 62nd Montana Legislature, and a Havre lawmaker has introduced a measure to make a 3rd DUI a felony in the Treasure State. Currently, a 4th DUI is a felony. Representative Kris Hansen (R-Havre) says her bill will crack down on DUI offenders. She says the key to reducing DUI deaths is early intervention. MT State Representative Michele Reinhart (D-Missoula) said, "I think that it's time that we be tougher, yes there are costs with this fiscal note, but there are very high costs to deaths from drunk driving."
