Shooting Suspect Had Served Prison Time |

A Phoenix man has been arrested after police say he backed his car toward Glendale police officers and then fled, leading to a four-car crash that seriously injured a 7-year-old girl and four other bystanders. A Glendale officer had fired at Leroy Matthew Smith, 30, as the car backed toward them, the tires squealing. Smith and another passenger then fled in the car, leading to the crash about a mile away. Police are recommending Smith be charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a police officer and one count of felony flight from law enforcement. Police say Smith's silver Dodge sedan collided with three other vehicles, leaving five bystanders with serious injuries, as he fled from officers late Friday. Read More. |
