Authorities Search For Missing Inmate |

Another inmate from a Davenport work release center has escaped. Police are looking for 33-year-old Heath Woods. Police say Woods had permission to leave the halfway house for a short period of time, but he failed to come back. He was on what's called a work release furlough. It's a period of time in which inmates can leave the halfway house, sometimes for as long as a weekend. "There has to be a demonstration of good behavior over a period of time and usually in the beginning, they're shorter terms, sometimes just for hours and eventually they can get a little bit longer provided their behavior allows for it," said Fred Scaletta with the Iowa Department of Corrections. Scaletta says Heath Woods' risk of violent behavior and longer prison sentence are the reasons the state parole board decided he should be in a work-release facility in the first place. Read More. |
