GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Gulfport police say a felon on parole on a murder conviction is accused of assaulting a police officer. Police say an officer responding to a disturbance early Tuesday morning found 62-year-old Lonnie Johnson Hayes acting disorderly. Investigator says Hayes allegedly assaulted the officer with his fist while holding a set of keys. The Sun Herald reports Hayes faces a felony charge of simple assault on an officer and several misdemeanors charges. While booking him, police learned he was paroled in 2008 for a murder conviction in 1978. Read More. |
