WAUPUN — Department of Corrections workers are urging Waupun officials to draft an official resolution condemning Governor Scott Walker's Budget Repair Bill.

Former Waupun Alderman Pete Kaczmarski expressed disappointment Tuesday night that city officials have not gone on record to oppose the governor's plan to change collective bargaining for state public employees.

"It's time for you elected officials to stand up and take a stand," Kaczmarski, a dispatcher for the Dodge County Sheriff's Department, told the council during its meeting earlier this week.

Mayor Jodi Steger told the audience she and City Administrator Kyle Clark have been in direct contact with legislators and have made several calls and sent correspondence to the governor's office, stressing Waupun's dependence on state aid. Over half of Waupun's property is considered tax exempt.

It is about time that the Public Sector workers pay into their OWN retirements and pay for a portion of their OWN health insurance. I know I have taken cuts and freezes in pay, increases in healthcare, hits in the stock market that DIRECTLY affects MY retirement savings while they have enjoyed, pay increases every year, healthcare at virtually no cost to them, and a retirement that will only go away if the State goes bankrupt. So they are pushing for the state to go bankrupt. Where does money come from? It doesn't grow on trees or I would be learning how to cultivate them. It doesn't appear out of thin air, or I would be figuring away to get it too. So where does it come from? The Tax Payer, the people that pay the wages of the people in Government along with all the Public Sector workers. So what happens when the money runs out? I know for sure they will try to tax the difference from the Private sector people like myself. I know that they couldn't freeze the wages of those union workers, but now they can. They couldn't increase their contribution to their own healthcare and I KNOW they couldn't take away their Retirement Matching like they did throughout the Private sector, because the Tax Payer was paying it ALL. The gravy train has ended for all you Public Sector workers, it is time to work for a living and pay in to the system that they believe is so perfect for a change and see how really perfect it is for making money for every politician but NONE of the people that voted for them.
