Jonni Alcantara was 15 when a fight at a house party changed his life. "Somebody blindsided me with a glass bottle. I retaliated and defended myself with a knife and he ended up passing away," he recalled. ..He was charged with firstdegree murder and faced the possibility of life without parole. "I fought a self-defense case for 19 months," said Alcantara, who was incarcerated in the Sylmar Juvenile detention facility. "It's an experience I don't wish on anyone," he said.
