NJ Man Sentenced For Impersonation |

TRENTON -- A convicted con man whom a headline writer once dubbed “Sigmund Fraud’’ was sentenced today to almost six years in federal prison for ripping off duped investors for $1.5 million. Martin Gevers, 52, who posed as a psychiatrist for New Jersey’s Department of Corrections for eight years before he was exposed, also was ordered by federal Judge Freda Wolfson to pay $1.2 million in restitution to his victims. In November, the paroled Gevers pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering for taking payments from people who thought they were investing in real estate, film and television ventures. U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said Gever solicited loans from the victims, telling them they’d get returns on their investments of up to 70 percent. Read More. |
