ST. CHARLES TWP. — A Carpentersville man has been sent to prison after pleading guilty to robbing a business at gunpoint and trying to rob a taxi driver the day before. Antonio D. McSwine, 20, of the 1-99 block of Almeda Drive, Carpentersville, agreed on Wednesday to a sentence of 22 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in exchange for a guilty plea to one count of attempted armed robbery, a Class 1 felony, and one count of armed robbery, a Class X felony. Circuit Judge Karen Simpson accepted the plea. According to a spokesman for the Kane County state’s attorney’s office and police reports from the time, on Sept. 3, 2009, McSwine called a taxi to pick him up at the intersection of Helm Road and Papoose Drive in Carpentersville. After riding awhile, McSwine placed a .38-caliber revolver against the driver’s head and demanded money, reports stated. When the driver said she didn’t have any money, McSwine aimed the gun out the window and fired it once. He placed it against the driver’s head and again demanded money, authorities said. The driver again said she had no money, so McSwine ordered her to stop the car, and he then exited and fled. Read More. |
