National Sheriff's Association Announces 2011 Award Recipient For Chaplain Of The Year

Alexandria, VA – The National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) is pleased to announce that Pastor Philip A. Green, of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office in Batavia, New York, has been selected as the recipient of the 2011 Chaplain of the Year. The Chaplain of the Year Award will be presented at the General Session on Monday, June 20th at NSA’s Annual Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. The award is sponsored by GTL.

Pastor Green started as a volunteer Chaplain with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office in May 2004. Prior to his service with Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, Pastor Green was a Chaplain for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Pastor Green is a dedicated, compassionate individual who cares for his community and the Sheriff’s Office.

Pastor Green earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida; his Master of Arts Degree in Biblical Exposition from Pensacola Theological Seminary and is currently working on his doctorate of Sacred Ministry from Northland Baptist Bible College in Dunbar, WI.

Pastor Green has a “Spirit of Volunteerism” that does not go unnoticed. He has responded at all hours of the day and night and during inclement weather. On several occasions Pastor Green has been called for his services in the middle of the night and has always helped the Sheriff’s department when he could. He has been able to comfort families in their times of tragedy and sadness.

Along with helping the Sheriff’s department in tragic events, Pastor Green has assisted area Sheriff’s Offices with initiating a Chaplain program within their Offices. Two counties have implemented Chaplain Programs with assistance from Pastor Green.

Pastor Green also cares about the emergency service community. Every year, Pastor Green sponsors and organizes Red and Blue Sunday at his church, whereby he and his congregation recognize and express their appreciation to the first responders in Genesee County.

Pastor Green receives no compensation or reimbursement for any of his work for the Sheriff’s department.

Pastor Green is currently the Senior Pastor for the First Baptist Church in Pavilion, New York. His wife, Marun, is an Emergency Room Nurse, and they have three children: Anthony, Tyler, and Laci.

National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) is the largest association of law enforcement professionals in the United States, representing more than 3,000 elected sheriffs across the nation, and a total membership of more than 20,000. NSA is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising the level of professionalism among sheriffs, their deputies, and others in the field of criminal justice and public safety. Throughout its seventieth-year history, NSA has served as an information clearinghouse for sheriffs, deputies, chiefs of police, other law enforcement professionals, state governments and the federal government. NSA also provides management training for sheriffs and their command personnel at the National Sheriffs’ Institute and through other innovative programs, workshops, and seminars. The National Sheriffs' Association, located in Alexandria, Virginia, also oversees the highly successful Triad Program and Neighborhood Watch.
