A federal audit of Michigan’s Department of Corrections has slammed the state agency for overspending on medications. The audit was particularly harsh in its review of the use of anti-psychotic medications, reports the Associated Press. The audit found that psychotropic medications accounted for $8 million in spending from January to July of 2010. That spending accounted for nearly 41 percent of all medication spending in the corrections system. Auditors also took the state to task for its use of Seroquel, a name brand medication used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Read More. |
