FL House Panel Proposes Corrections and Court cuts |

Before the Wednesday meeting even began state Rep. Rich Glorioso, R - Plant City, was blunt about the budget proposal he was about to present for the state's prison system, which has a $72 million budget gap. "I've said for a long time, no one is going to like the budget," he said. Glorioso chairs the House Justice Appropriations Subcommittee. Here are some highlights of that group's handywork: * The $4.4 billion budget is $767 million lighter than last year. A large portion of that cut came from removing the clerk of courts budget from their portion of the budget. * The budget proposes closing correctional institutions in Brevard, Hillsborough and Hendry Counties ($30.5 million). * It would fire a quarter of all judicial assistants ($13.5 million) To Read More, click here. |
