The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 20 gang members as part of its ongoing Operation Street Sweep, which is aimed at taking gang members off the streets. In the latest part of the operation, deputies picked up various members of prison gangs such as Vallucos TCB and Latin Kings, as well as local street gangs like Loco 13. “We are not letting up on the pressure that we are applying on the wanted gang members and their illegal activities,” Sheriff Lupe Treviño said. “Crime has dropped significantly in the areas that we are operating and that’s a very good thing. We will continue until we exhaust all leads. At that point, we will attempt to uncover new ones.” The operation began in late February and calls for a round up of any known gang member with outstanding warrants — from minor charges to felonies. During the third wave second wave of the operation, deputies arrested gang members for offenses ranging from driving without a seatbelt to attempted murder, burglary of habitation and intoxication manslaughter.
