The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announces that New Hampshire Correctional Industries (GraniteCOR) will have a booth at the 2011 Made in New Hampshire Try It and Buy It Expo. Now in its sixteenth year, this event highlights the state’s diversity with over one thousand products, ranging from the latest in high technology to fine craftsmanship. This is the seventh year GraniteCOR has participated. GraniteCOR staff will be available during the weekend to answer questions about inmate-made products and to discuss job skills programs offered to offenders. Many opportunities exist for inmates to learn marketable trades such as information technology, printing, furniture construction and upholstery, woodworking, agriculture, and sign making. A few small items will be available for sale. “This is an opportunity to educate and inform the public about Correctional Industries, particularly for those who cannot come inside the prison to see the shops for themselves,” Corrections Commissioner William L. Wrenn said. Approximately 400 inmates participate in industries programs each year. The expo will be held at the Radisson Hotel/Center of New Hampshire Expo Center in Manchester from Friday April 1-Sunday April 3, 2011. |
