Alleged weed carrying warder offered bail

A correctional officer, who was reportedly caught with two small parcels of ganja while on duty at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre, was yesterday offered $250,000 bail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

George Smith, 38, of Bridgeport, St Catherine, is charged for breaches of the Corrections Act, possession of ganja and dealing in ganja.

According to police reports, on the day in question, a supervisor at the correctional facility searched Smith and found a bag in his pants pocket containing two small parcels of ganja.

Smith, at that point, reportedly begged his supervisor not to report the matter and he would resign.

However, the matter was reported and when Smith was cautioned he reportedly told the police that the ganja was not his.
