In a move to get fresh perspective in the Maine Department of Corrections, Commissioner Joseph Ponte is replacing two of his three associate commissioners.

Former Associate Commissioners Denise Lord and Bud Doughty were recently let go.

“I had the chance to build my own team,” said Ponte, whom Gov. Paul LePage picked for the post in January. “I wanted to bring people in with fresh eyes with a new look at things.”

Lord had more than 16 years of experience in the department. She will be replaced by Jody Breton. Lord worked on budgets and legislative bills and handled press relations.

Doughty, who had been with the department for about 30 years, has not yet been replaced. His job focused on work in probation.

Ponte said recently he was unsure what Doughty or Lord would do next.
