Ex-inmate helps others walk road to redemption

From a life of crime, homelessness and prison to one of faith, humility and forgiveness, Ricky Kimble has come a long way. Now he's sharing his story of redemption each Thursday evening with inmates at the Maryville Treatment Center east of town.

Kimble grew up in a Kansas City housing project. He was the youngest of eight children raised by a single mother.

"The only time our mother really had control of us was when she took us to church," he said. "Our father was a drunk. He was very abusive. He taught us to deal drugs, bootleg liquor and shoot guns. Nothing positive ever came from our father. Everything around him was destructive."
