ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A former New Mexico Corrections Department official has been indicted on bribery charges that are connected to work done for the department. A federal grand jury this week indicted 50-year-old Laurie Chapman. She was the department's facilities manager. The 30-count indictment alleges that between February 2007 and August 2009 Chapman solicited and accepted more than $237,000 in bribes from a roofing company, Omni Development Corporation. The indictment says that in exchange, Omni was chosen to perform maintenance and construction jobs valued at $4 million at state Corrections Department facilities. The indictment charges Chapman with 30 counts of theft or bribery involving programs that received federal funds. Read More. |
