Quinn appoints new chief of Illinois prisons |

CHICAGO— Gov. Pat Quinn has appointed the executive director of the Cook County Sheriff's Department of Corrections to head the state's Department of Corrections. Quinn announced Monday that Salvador "Tony" Godinez would take the job permanently. He replaces acting director Gladyse Taylor. Taylor was named the $112,800 acting director of Corrections in September when Michael Randle resigned. Before Randle resigned a report found the Department of Corrections failed to consider possible dangers to the public when it granted early release to prisoners, some of whom were violent.
