JANESVILLE — A domestic dispute gone wild led to a Janesville man clinging to the hood of a car as it sped down Highway 51 on Saturday afternoon, police report.

No one was seriously injured.

Police said a man and woman who live together were having a dispute when the woman drove to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office on the city’s north side, because she felt safe there.

The man met her there, and she decided to leave. As she was leaving, he jumped on the hood of the car, a two-door Mercury hatchback.

The woman drove south on Highway 51. A motorist ahead of them reported the car swerved back and forth at speeds of up to 50 mph as the woman apparently tried to dislodge the man.

The rolling fracas caught the attention of a Janesville police officer, who stopped it at about 3 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Parker Drive and Black Bridge Road.

The man suffered from blows and scratches the woman inflicted on him during the incident police said.

Ramona Jefferson, 48, of 1308 Church St., Janesville, was arrested on a charge of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, a felony.

Darius M. Floyd, 30, of the same address, was cited for riding illegally on a motor vehicle.
