BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - An inmate that walked away from Oklahoma Department of Corrections custody last week is now back behind bars following his recapture Monday afternoon by area law enforcement and DOC officials. According to Washington County Undersheriff Steve Johnson, Jacob Earl Stevens, 20, was serving time at the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center, a minimum security DOC facility in McAlester, on Friday when he walked away. Members of the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Bartlesville Police Department the 11th Judicial Drug Task Force and the Department of Corrections apprehended him Monday at around 4 p.m. after learning he had returned to his former hometown Bartlesville. “Our guys tracked him down to a local hotel and they were just standing around waiting on him and he walked right into him,” Johnson told BartlesvilleLIVE. “We were pretty sure he was in the area, it was just a matter of timing — knowing when he got there. Today was the day. He walked right into our guys.” Read More. |
