TOWANDA -- The warden of the Bradford County Correctional Facility announced Wednesday that he has received unofficial notification from the state Department of Corrections that the jail received a 100 percent compliance rating on its most recent inspection.

The inspection was done on May 11 and 12 by the Department of Corrections, Stewart said.

The announcement was made at the Bradford County Prison Board meeting. Donald Stewart, warden of the jail, said he was told by the state inspector as she completed the inspection that the jail had achieved a 100 percent compliance rating. Stewart said that after the inspection, he received an e-mail from the same inspector stating that the jail had received the 100 percent compliance rating.

Stewart said the jail is waiting for a formal notification of the inspection results.

"That's great," Bradford County Sheriff Clinton "C.J." Walters said, when hearing of the inspection results. Walters, who serves as the chairman of the Prison Board, said he wanted to commend all of the employees at the jail.

The jail had received 100 compliance ratings on its two previous state inspections, too, which took place in 2007 and 2009, Stewart said.

If a jail receives a 100 compliance rating from the state Department of Corrections, the state waits two years before conducting its next inspection. Stewart said.

If a jail receives a rating under 100 percent, it is inspected again the following year, he said.
