| Holmes County corrections officer drowns |

A Holmes County Jail corrections officer drowned in the Choctawhatchee River in Holmes County while trying to help one of his children this weekend. According to a press release from the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, 25-year-old Jonathan Cannon was at the river landing in northern Holmes County when he went to the aid of one of his children and got into trouble in the current. Cannon failed to return to the surface. Swimmers in the area recovered Cannon and brought him out of the water, but resuscitation efforts failed, according to the press release. Holmes County EMS was called to the scene Cannon had recently started a career as a part-time correction officer at the Holmes County Jail. He leaves behind a wife and two small children.
