W.Va. add 400 to ease jail overcrowding |

BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia is installing 400 additional bunks in regional jails to ease overcrowding caused by an overflow of inmates awaiting transfer to prisons. Military Affairs and Public Safety Deputy Secretary Joe DeLong tells The Register-Herald that some inmates are sleeping on mattresses on cell floors. DeLong says the 400 bunks are the maximum number that can be installed in the regional jails. Read More. |
