1,000 PA Inmates Return from Michigan |

More Than A Thousand ... ... state prison inmates have returned to Pennsylvania prisons from corrections institutions in Michigan, state officials Gavel said this afternoon. Some 2,000 state prisoners were moved to facilities in Virginia and Michigan in 2010 to deal with prison overcrowding that resulted from a moratorium on new parole for inmates. “Ninety percent of our inmates will return home after incarceration and helping them to maintain their family support is vital to their successful return into society." Corrections Secretary John Wetzel said in a statement. Wetzel said the state's inmate population had leveled off enough over the last few months to allow the inmates to return to Pennsylvania. And while the "population decrease is slight, it is enough – when combined with current capacity expansion projects – to allow us to bring our inmates home,” Wetzel said.< Read More. |
